Trout and Climate Change, 7 p.m. in Scarborough

Trout Unlimited’s New England Maine brook trout project director, Jeff Reardon, will provide an update on efforts to protect the Cold Stream watershed at the local Trout Unlimited chapter meeting. Reardon also will summarize a recent assessment of climate change impacts on Maine’s brook trout. Meet in Cabela’s meeting rooms at the Scarborough store. The meeting is open to the public. Streams and Culverts, 6:30 p.m. in Holden

Join Maine Audubon biologist Barbara Charry to learn how fish and wildlife habitat can be connected through the use of proper culvert crossings. The talk is at the Fields Pond Audubon Center. Cost is $6. Register at maineaudubon.org.

Full Moon Hike, 6 p.m. Feb. 2, Jefferson

Join naturalist Lynn Flaccus for a full moon hike and owl prowl at Hidden Valley Nature Center. Come learn to call for owls and identify their calls as you explore some of the 30 miles of trails at the nature center. This event is great for all ages and abilities. The walk will be a little more than a mile, and the difficulty will vary depending on the ground conditions. Dress warmly with plenty of layers and bring snowshoes if necessary, along with a headlamp or flashlight. Cost is $5. Register at hvnc.org/registration, or call 200-8840.

World Record Ride, 11 a.m. Feb. 7, Oquossoc

The Rangeley World Record Snowmobile Ride for Cystic Fibrosis will leave from Bald Mountain Camps. Last year the group raised $22,000 and had 385 snowmobiles riding for a new world record. The ride starts in Oquossoc and travels to Rangeley. The entry fee is $10, and includes events and fireworks. For information, call 671-7275.

Sled Dog Race, 9 a.m. Feb. 7, Greenville

The Plum Creek Wilderness Sled Dog Race will take place across forested mountain trails on land owned by Plum Creek Timberlands and the Appalachian Mountain Club. The 66-mile race will start at 9 a.m. at Leisure Life Resort in Greenville. A 30-mile race will also be held, and activities will be provided for spectators and families throughout the day at Leisure Life Resort. This event is free.
