Diane B. Goodwin

TOPSHAM – Diane B. Goodwin, 93, died peacefully where she lived at The Highlands in Topsham, Feb. 1, 2026.

Diane was born Aug. 5, 1932, the daughter of Andre and Fabiola Painchaud. She spent her childhood with her sisters Pauline, Madeline, Lucille and brothers Paul and Ray in Biddeford. As a graduate of Biddeford High School, Diane studied to be a secretary and was active on the student council, glee club, acted in plays, played basketball for three years and was a cheerleader for four years. She married her high school sweetheart, Marshall Goodwin on Feb. 17, 1950.

Diane and Marshall lived at Biddeford Pool while Marshall was in the Navy. After his discharge they and their two sons moved to Orono until Marshall received his undergraduate degree at the University of Maine. Summers were spent at Biddeford Pool where they built and ran a small take-out restaurant, Marshall’s Drive-In, to earn tuition money and support their family. Marshall went on to graduate from Tufts Dental School and he and Diane moved to Scarborough where Marshall opened his dental practice. By then the family had grown to four sons and a daughter who kept Diane very busy as part of managing her household on Pine Point Road.

Diane often said the years they spent at the Pool working together at the Drive-In and raising their growing family were some of the happiest years of her life. Diane’s hard work and her support for her husband through those early years never seemed to lessen the “joie de vivre” that was a hallmark of the French-Canadian community she grew up in.

Diane enjoyed sewing, playing golf with friends at the Willowdale Golf Course, liked to ski, and was an active supporter of the many activities associated with the Blue Point Church in Scarborough. Diane had a great ability to gather family and friends around her kitchen table for coffee or a spontaneous meal. Christmas celebrations that included a score or more of the extended family were usually held at Diane and Marshall’s to the delight of all.

Diane is survived by her children Dana, Clinton, Blakely, Bruce and Keith; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A private internment will be held at the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco. A celebration of her life is planned for this spring. Please contact a family member for details.
