YARMOUTH – Gary Ronald Rees of Yarmouth, died on Feb. 20, 2026 at the age of 81 when his heart simply gave in after fighting a prolonged battle with pneumonia due to complications from cancer.

Born Oct. 17, 1944 in Dover Foxcroft, the son of Harold Robert Rees and Maude Doris Rees of Sangerville. Gary was a champion cross-country runner and golfer in high school. He graduated Husson College, Class of 1968.

Gary was a member of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) and throughout his life, he served as the Golf Pro for several Golf Courses in Maine, including Bangor Municipal, Twin Falls, Guilford, Val Halla, The Woodlands, Freeport and Dexter Country Clubs. Gary always said it was the teams that won these matches, and he was so proud of each and every team member he coached over the years. His teams had 344 wins, giving him the Coach’s gift of an 87 percent chance at winning a match.

Gary was inducted into the Maine Golf Hall of Fame in 2004 and served as Executive Director of the program for 15 years. Golf was his passion and he shared that with everyone he met.
