PORTLAND — A boat in dry dock caught fire at Portland Yacht Services and Portland Ship Yard on Tuesday.

The Portland Fire Department said they were responding to an all-hands fire at 100 West Commercial St. at about 6 p.m. in a social media post.

Division Chief Sean Donaghue said a boat out of the water was involved, but it was difficult for firefighters to access. No injuries were immediately reported Tuesday night.

The smell of smoke was strong along West Commercial Street and was even noticeable farther inland.

By about 7:30 p.m., no flames were visible, but crews continued to douse the vessel named Whitecap. Small plumes of smoke billowed from the bow sporadically.

While some fire crews remained on scene, others departed at about 7:45 p.m.
