David “Jay” Richards Jr.
SOUTH PORTLAND – David “Jay” Richards Jr., 66, passed away on May 1, 2026, at his home in South Portland. Jay was born on Aug. 31, 1959, in Portland, son of the late David James Richards Sr. and Patricia “Patty” (Carr) Jameson.
Jay was a lifelong resident of South Portland. Known for his kind and giving nature, Jay was someone who showed up for others without hesitation. He treasured the friendships he made in childhood, staying close with many of them throughout his life. From an early age, he developed a love of motorcycles and the outdoors, and was a big fan of The Three Stooges, always ready with a joke or a smile. He loved following the New York Giants and Boston Celtics, but he found his greatest joy in time spent with his family- especially camping with his grandchildren and cheering them on from the sidelines at their sporting events.
Jay was predeceased by his brother, Tony Richards.
He is survived by his wife Mickey Neuts-Richards; children, Jennifer Alward, and Daniel and his wife Hannah Richards; grandchildren, Mia Richards, Dylan Alward, Lucy Richards, and Anthony Nixon; brothers Michael and his wife Teresa Richards, Timothy Richards, Patrick and his wife Ellen Richards, James Richards and his wife Tanya Kays; aunt, Judy and her husband Dennis Leeman; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the team at Northern Lights Home Care and Hospice, especially Amanda, Robert, and Dennis.
A heartfelt thank you to his lifelong friend, Beav, for his unwavering friendship and support throughout the years – especially in his final days.
Visiting hours will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m., on Thursday, May 7, at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Homes of South Portland, 1024 Broadway, South Portland; a graveside service will follow at Forest City Cemetery, 232 Lincoln St., South Portland.
