Anthony S. Fusco
GORHAM – It is with heartbroken sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony S. Fusco, 87, at his home in Gorham while enjoying the Sunday paper.
Anthony was born on April 20, 1939, in Portland, and grew up in the “Little Italy” section of the city. The son of Samuel and Margaret (Rice) Fusco, he attended Portland schools and graduated from Portland High School.
Anthony was a very mature, responsible young man. He was a school crossing guard at a young age and was a kind and thoughtful provider and helped his direct family with several homes. He was a self-made entrepreneur with many holding in Portland, and also in Gorham, Buxton, Lakefront Waterboro, and Ocean Front in Ogunquit. He also owned places Ocala, Mt. Dora, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Anthony was a Vietnam veteran, and while stationed in Wisconsin, he attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, majoring in pre-med and had planned to be a Osteopathic doctor.
After his military service he returned home to Portland. Shortly after his return home, his beloved mother passed away suddenly on September 11, 1968. She was only 48 years old. His family depended on his financial support, and so he needed to leave college behind.
The family suffered a supreme loss. Anthony kept busy with his real estate, and whatever he could he shared Italian meals with his family and friends especially around the holidays.
He worked at The Custom Shop for over forty years.
In the last 15 years Anthony and his partner David of 52 years, sold off their commercial businesses and were content to retire at their home in Gorham.
In his retirement, Anthony worked side by side with the Gorham Historical Society, and also at the Baxter Library transporting books to sell at the Robie Gym. In his spare time, he enjoyed learning about birds and Italian cooking. He could identify most birds and what they enjoyed eating. With David they equally shared the responsibilities for two antique shops, one on Congress Street, and finally at their home in Gorham.
Anthony is survived by his partner of 52 years, David Arthur Fogg of Gorham; his brother Fred V. Fusco of North Windham; his nephew Fred C. Fusco and wife Lianna, their children Jacob and Haley also of North Windham; three nieces Laurie Fusco Chadborne of Biddeford, Bonnie and Bob of Windham, and Kelly Fusco of South Portland. He is also survived by his partner David’s nephews, Dustin T. Fogg and Destiny, Arthur R. Fogg, Jeffery Grover all of Gorham, Andrew and his wife Lyndsay Barker and family Rae, Genevieve, and Aslyn of Standish; and a niece Courtney E. Cromley her husband Jonathan and their son Jameson of Milton Pennsylvania, as well as many cousins.
Anthony’s family would like to thank his primary care doctor, Robert Frasier of Intermed Portland, and his nurse Chip, also Eric Holmes, and the cardiac team Jean Cass, and Dana Trombley.
