SCARBOROUGH – Timothy C. Robinson, 94, died peacefully in his sleep at Piper Shores in Scarborough, the retirement community where he lived, on Friday evening May 29, 2026.

Tim was born to Harold R. Robinson and Harriette Woolverton on June 6, 1931 in Portland. He was raised in Cape Elizabeth where he attended local schools, subsequently graduating from Deerfield Academy in 1949, Williams College in 1953 and, after moving to Boston, Mass. in 1960, obtaining a master’s degree in Philosophy at Boston University after completing all but his dissertation for a PhD.

His first job was with the C.H. Robinson Paper Company in Portland, the family business. After studying philosophy at B.U. and a stint teaching it at the University of Massachusetts, Tim joined the Boston-based publishing company, Little, Brown & Co. in 1971 where he became Senior Vice President and President of Professional Publishing overseeing the division responsible for publishing law and medical textbooks.

He married Maren Heidelauf in 1966, after meeting some years before in a summer school logic class, and they were devoted partners for 55 years until her death in 2021. Tim and Maren lived with their family for many years in Boston and Cambridge, Mass., returning to Maine full-time in 2010.

In retirement, Tim enjoyed taking classes in film, literature, and current events at the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement and traveling with Maren to Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, New Zealand, China, England, Italy, and Romania.

Tim was very active as a volunteer in a variety of organizations. He was President of the Handel and Haydn Society and of the Megantic Fish and Game Corp., a board member for Cambridge Family and Children’s Service, a member of the advisory council of the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust, and a long-time member of the St. Botolph Club.

He was generous, good-humored, well-read, intellectually broad in his interests, a meticulous planner, loved classical music, travel, and the great outdoors, was an excellent fly-fisherman, and he appreciated good food and drink until the end. Above all he was a dedicated, loyal, and loving family man.

Tim is survived by four sons, Tony, Michael, Tyler and Peter; nine grandchildren, Jacob, Max and Alex, Giulia and Victoria, David and Theo, Lara and John Ahearn; two great-grandchildren, Thatcher and Ashton; daughters-in-law Junghwa Shin, Roberta Fabbri, and Anca Bieru; sister-in-law, Barbara and brother-in-law, Robert Ward; nieces Ann Jones, Kimberly Kozuch, and Stephanie Chiari, and nephews Frank S. Strout, Andrew Strout, and Timothy Strout.

He was predeceased by his brother, John M. Robinson in 2006; and sister, Ann Elizabeth Strout in 2015.

The family would like to thank the staff at Maine Medical Center and Piper Shores, and especially Cheryl Poitras, for the care they provided to Tim.

A private graveside service will be held at Riverside Memorial Cemetery at the Spurwink Church in Cape Elizabeth.
