Boys’ basketball:Cheverus Stags’ depth leads to victory
Cheverus flexed its defense and depth, and got its fast break going in the second half Tuesday night to pull away from Thornton Academy for a 52-37 victory in an SMAA boys’ basketball game.
The Stags (7-0) used an 18-4 run spanning the third and fourth quarters – including 14 straight points – to put the game away.

Boys’ basketball: Western Class Bis so up in the air
Theo Bowe scored a career-high 34 points and Cape Elizabeth forced 24 turnovers Tuesday, pulling away to a 55-41 victory against Greely in a Western Maine Conference boys’ basketball game.
Cape (5-1) handed Greely (5-1) its first loss of the regular season and signaled that Western Class B could be wide open. Cape’s loss was to Yarmouth, a team the Rangers beat handily.
“Taking nothing away from Yarmouth, but against us they shot lights out and we didn’t play well,” said Bowe.
