Portland school board member charged with driving drunk says she’ll keep serving city

Jenna Vendil says in a statement at Tuesday’s board meeting that she is prepared to give a ‘one hundred percent’ effort until the case is resolved.

Crocker, who was principal at South Portland High School and now works for the Portland school district, will start her one-year assignment Aug. 1.

The event, part of the school district’s annual meals program, is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Deering Oaks.

Officials say the proposed changes help the school system meet proficiency-based standards set by the state.

Jenna Vendil, who is completing her sixth year on the board, failed a field sobriety test in Scarborough on June 27, police say.

Voters will head to the polls Tuesday to consider a $500,000 reduction that’s also expected to fail.

The person selected will lead the city’s school system until officials can find a permanent replacement for Emmanuel Caulk.

School officials plan to hire someone to serve for one year while they seek a permanent replacement for Emmanuel Caulk.
