At a recent ceremony at Windham High School English teacher Richard Lawson was recognized by the National Troops to Teachers Program for his more than five years of teaching service.
Lawson, a retired US Army Sergeant Major, participated in this national program when he retired from the military. The Troops to Teachers Program’s focus is to assist service personnel transitioning from the military to teaching. When Lawson began teaching, funding was provided to the school districts to offset their salaries. The intent of the current program is to provide financial support directly to the service member who, in return, agrees to teach three years in a high-need school district or school.
