Scouts from local Sea Scout ship 12 received awards from Skipper Steve Birmingham of Cape Elizabeth, left, at the Ship’s “Bridge of Honor” ceremony held at the U. S. Coast Guard Station in South Portland on Jan. 18.

An advancement award was presented to Nolan Scheemaker of Scarborough, center. He also received two badges of office as boatswain’s mate and as purser. Other scouts receiving badges of office were: Matt Sirocki of Scarborough, second from left, was named boatswain, he will be the scouts’ leader; and Caitlyn Charles of South Portland, second from right, was named storekeeper. Jesse Bourgault of Scarborough, right, received, with the others, the international scouting badge. Alex Whittemore of Scarborough, not pictured, received a badge of office as yeoman.

Sea Scout ship 12 is chartered by the South Portland/Cape Elizabeth Rotary Club to serve young people ages 14-21. The Coast Guard provides meeting spaces and seamanship training.
