Local cheerleading
team starts season

CUMBERLAND — Coastal Youth Cheering, a competition cheerleading team, is gearing up for its 2010 season with a registration night and open practice.

The competitive cheer squad is open to all girls, with no tryout
necessary, in grades 4-8 in Yarmouth, Falmouth, Freeport, Pownal,
Durham, Cumberland, and North Yarmouth. 

A registration night was scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. For those unable to attend the registration, girls are welcome to join the first practice on Monday, Dec. 7, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the West Cumberland Hall, Blackstrap Road, Cumberland.

Competitive cheer season begins in November and goes until March. The team will compete in 3 to 4 local invitational competitions in 2010.

Freeport H.S. seniors
offer childcare Dec. 4-5

FREEPORT — Seniors from Freeport High School are offering childcare during Freeport’s Sparkle Weekend to raise money for the 2010 senior class Project Graduation and senior week activities.

Face painting, crafts, games and refreshments will be provided for children ages 5 to 11 at the Port Teen Center, located at the Freeport Community Center, 53 Depot Road, Freeport.

Childcare is available on Friday, Dec. 4, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., and 6:30 8:30 p.m.; and on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 12 to 4 p.m.

Yarmouth Boy Scout
troop presents plaque

YARMOUTH — Boy Scout Troop 35 of Yarmouth will present a special Eagle Scout plaque to the town of Yarmouth on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. during a Yarmouth Town Council meeting at the Log Cabin.

The plaques are engraved with the names of all Yarmouth Eagle Scouts and will be on permanent display in the Yarmouth Town Hall community room.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program. Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges doing community service, and developing leadership skills.

The troop also has a business discount card for sale at the Royal Bean Coffee Shop on Main St. in Yarmouth. The $5 card offers savings at local restaurants and stores, with all proceeds going to support Troop 35.
