Academic awards and recognitions
Briana L. Costello of South Portland was inducted into the Phi Alpha Honor Society for social work students at the University of Vermont.
The Portland Water District Board of Trustees awarded the 2010 Joseph A. DiPietro Memorial Scholarship for $1,500 to Spencer DiPietro Bowring of South Portland. Bowring, a recent graduate of South Portland High School, plans to study marine engineering technology at Maine Maritime Academy.
The Maine Innkeepers Association Education Foundation, presented a $500 scholarship to University of Maine, Orono student, Alison Kill of South Portland. The John O’Keeffe Award, sponsored by Fisherman’s Wharf, was given to Kill at the at the sixth annual Tees & Textbooks event held this summer.
