AUGUSTA — Police have identified the man found dead in an apartment before dawn Saturday as David Cox.

Cox was 46 and lived at 12 Green St. with a male roommate.

Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland says the state Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy this afternoon. “We hope to know more after the autopsy,” he says.

A state police cruiser was at the scene this morning and police tape remained around the building.

Other than worshipers filing into Green Street Methodist Church, the neighborhood of several apartment buildings appeared quiet.
