SOUTH KINGSTON, R.I. — Former University of Maine women’s basketball coach Cindy Blodgett has a new job as an assistant coach at the University of Rhode Island.

URI says Blodgett signed a contract on Monday.

Blodgett is the second assistant coach hired by URI head coach Cathy Inglese within the last 10 days.

Blodgett was fired from her Maine job earlier this year after compiling a record of 24-94 in her four seasons in Orono.

Inglese is in her third year at URI.

Inglese, Blodgett and the others will be trying to lead the Rams to their first winning season since 2003-04.

Inglese led Boston College to a 273-179 record, in her 15 years at Chestnut Hill after going 120-74 in seven seasons at Vermont.
