THE NASSON COLLEGE Alumni Association has dedicated a spot in the Nasson Heritage Center for Class of 1960 alumna Anna Ashley, who played a key role in creating the center as a place for Nasson alumni to meet and to display and archive memorabilia. As a member of the Sanford Springvale Development Corp., Ashley helped name the Nasson Common and create the Brick Flag Plaza. She also was part of a group to save the Nasson Gymnasium and Little Theatrer. 

WELLS

THE PARENT TEACHER Student Association at Wells Elementary School received $1,550 in funding from Hannaford for its community participation in the 10th annual Hannaford Helps Schools program. Those funds will be distributed to teachers for requested classroom-related needs.

STANDISH

THE BONNY EAGLE T-Cell Team was honored by the Maine School Administrative District 6 for raising $2,500 to benefit the Frannie Peabody Center through an AIDS Ball, walk-a-thon and other activities this past spring.

LIMINGTON

GRADE 2 students of H. B. Emery Jr. Elementary School Teacher Beth Komulainen’s class won 200 books from Scholastic Book Clubs as part of the Scholastic Books Classrooms Care program designed to encourage students to read. Komulainen entered her students in the contest after they met the contest’s goal to read 100 books by Dec. 15. The names of two classrooms from each state were selected from 35,000 entries with winning classrooms asked to donate 100 of their books to a worthy group. Komulainen’s students chose the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center.

SANFORD

THE HIGH SCHOOL Key Club recently wrapped the 2010-11 school year by making two large contributions to two nonprofits. The students donated $1,000 to the Parent Resource Center and delivered a large amount of nonperishable foods to the Sanford Food Pantry from a food drive they oversaw. Key Club is a student-led community service organization that is part of Kiwanis International.

THE THORNTON ACADEMY Fund Auction has raised $82,985 to benefit its project to install artificial turf and lights at Hill Stadium, renovate the track and rebuild four tennis courts. Thornton is aising $1.2 million for the project. Go to www.thorntonacademy.org or call 602-4460.

THE WESTERN MAINE BBQ Festival is seeking vendors to showcase products and service at the event July 23-24 at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds.
