BAR HARBOR — It’s a busy week for cruise ships in Maine, with seven ships slated to stop in Bar Harbor and six making port calls in Portland.

In all, the ships are carrying tens of thousands of passengers and crew members, giving local merchants a boost.

The visiting ships include the Queen Elizabeth, a Cunard Line luxury ship that was launched a year ago and is making its first voyage to Maine. The ship is nearly 1,000 feet long and carries more than 2,000 passengers.

The Queen Elizabeth comes to Portland on Friday, after which it will sail to Bar Harbor, where it will spend the day Saturday.
