PORTLAND – Jordan Agger drove for a layup as the horn sounded, lifting Thornton Academy to a 54-52 win over Deering in a girls’ basketball season opener Friday night.

Emily Cole banked in a 3-pointer with eight seconds left to pull the Rams into a 52-52 tie. But Thornton quickly inbounded the ball and Agger beat the Deering defense.

Meghan Agger scored 17 points for the Trojans, and Olivia Shaw added 16. Jordan Agger finished with 11.

Ella Ramonas paced Deering with 20 points, Marissa MacMillan scored 12 and Cole had 11.

SCARBOROUGH 58, GORHAM 51: Brittany Bona and Mary Redmond each scored 13 points, and the Red Storm made 12 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter against the visiting Rams.

Bona made five foul shots and Maria Philbrick got her four points from the foul line in the fourth.

Ashley Briggs finished with 10 points for the Red Storm.

Kristin Ross had 23 points and Lexi Merrifield 13 for Gorham.

WINDHAM 55, SOUTH PORTLAND 47: Meghan Gribbin finished with 24 points to lead the Eagles past the Red Riots at South Portland.

Stephanie Frost contributed 10 points for Windham.

Logan Neal led South Portland with 12 points, Brianne Maloney added 11 and Jillian Legere scored 10. Danica Gleason had eight points in the first half before leaving with an ankle injury.

MCAULEY 62, NOBLE 31: Allie Clement scored 13 of her 17 points in the second half to help the Lions pull away from the Knights at North Berwick.

Sadie DiPierro added 13 points for McAuley. Noble was paced by Chandler Waterman with 11 points.

WESTBROOK 44, KENNEBUNK 32: Ashlee Richards scored all of her eight points during the second half, and Jessica Harris seven of her eight as the Blue Blazes pulled away from a 15-15 halftime tie at Kennebunk.

Kayla Winton led the Blue Blazes with 10 points. Alison Bush and Maddy Kasprzak scored eight apiece for Kennebunk.

SANFORD 39, BONNY EAGLE 37: Maria Veino scored 11 points as the Redskins edged the Scots at Standish.

Samantha Campobasso, Olivia Dalphonse and Alicia Hoyt each had seven points for Bonny Eagle.

WAYNFLETE 39, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 26: The visiting Flyers outscored the Seagulls 25-12 in the second half to help Coach Brandon Salway earn his 200th victory.

Martha Veroneau had 16 points and Rhiannan Jackson finished with 13 points for the Flyers.

Christina Coleman scored 12 points for OOB.

FALMOUTH 48, CAPE ELIZABETH 38: The visiting Yachtsmen recovered from a slow start and steadily pulled away from the Capers.

Ally Hickey had 14 points, Jackie Doyle nine and Nicole Rogers eight for Falmouth, which trailed 11-6 after one quarter. Hickey and Rogers combined for nine fourth-quarter points.

Kayla Raftice led the Capers with 13 points.

WELLS 49, GREELY 43: Allison Furness scored 17 points and the Warriors pulled away from the Rangers in the final four minutes at Wells.

Greely rallied from a 28-17 halftime deficit to take a 41-40 lead in the fourth quarter, but Kelly Beisswanger and Mariyah Heath scored four points apiece to help Wells finish on a 9-2 run.

Jaclyn Storey scored 16 points for the Rangers.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 50, YARMOUTH 39: Marie Valente scored 25 points to lead the Patriots over the Clippers at Yarmouth.

Valente sank two 3-pointers during a third-quarter surge that helped Gray-New Gloucester pull away.

Grace O’Donnell scored 13 points for Yarmouth, and Morgan Cahill had 10 points and 13 blocked shots.

YORK 41, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 23: Emily Campbell scored 16 points, and Marquis MacGlashing had 15 rebounds and six blocks to lead the Wildcats at Fryeburg.

Kendra Fox had nine points for the Raiders.

FREEPORT 62, NYA 31: Leigh Wyman and Nina Davenport each had 11 points and Morgan Brown finished with 10 as the Falcons handled the visiting Panthers.

Morgan Scully led NYA with nine points.

LAKE REGION 48, POLAND 26: Abby Craffey scored 12 points as the Lakers defeated the Knights at Naples.

Michaella Arsenault had 11 points and Emily Bolduc 10 for Poland.

MT. ARARAT 52, EDWARD LITTLE 41: Chelsea Crawford and Leah Hitchcock each had 11 points for the Eagles, who rallied in the second half to beat the Red Eddies at Auburn.

Crawford and Hitchcock scored six points apiece in the third quarter, when the Eagles outscored the Eddies 22-2 to go ahead 36-31.

Crawford iced it by hitting 9 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Kristy Willey added 10 points. Kory Norcross scored 12 points and Katherine Sawyer had 10 for EL.

MEDOMAK VALLEY 37, OCEANSIDE 28: Alanna Vose scored 18 points and had six steals to lead the Panthers over the Mariners at Waldoboro.

Medomak shut out the visitors in the first quarter, and Vose scored seven of her team’s eight points in the second as the Panthers took a 17-11 halftime lead.

BOOTHBAY REGION 52, DIRIGO 33: Sarah Caron and Meghan Smith scored 16 points apiece for the Seahawks, who took a 15-0 first-quarter lead against the Cougars at Boothbay Harbor.

Alexandra Clarke added 13 points for Boothbay Region. Jessica Conant had nine for Dirigo.

HOCKEY

GREELY 1, LEWISTON 0: Sarah Kurland scored 23 seconds into the second period and Emma Seymour made 19 saves as the Rangers (5-0) earned their fifth straight shutout, beating the Blue Devils (2-2-1) at Lewiston.

Freyja Victory assisted on the goal.

Paige Fontaine made 37 saves for Lewiston.
