Bob Marley plans new holiday show

PORTLAND — Maine’s “Guinness World Record Holder” comedian Bob Marley returns to Merrill Auditorium with a brand new holiday show to wrap up 2011.

The five shows will be at 7 p.m. on Dec. 29, and 6:30 and 9 p.m. on both Dec. 30 and 31. Tickets are $48 and are available through www.Port- Tix.com or at 842-0800.

According to a news release, Marley’s Merrill Auditorium shows have become a sold out holiday tradition over the past decade. Maine fans have always shown tremendous support for their homegrown celebrity.

“Each year fans whisper about the ‘opening’ of his show that has been everything from him riding on a pink girls bike with a bunch of Harleys, on a sled pulled by mules, The Cumberland Fair, L.L. Bean, and more. This year will once again be an eye- popping, side- splitting start to the laughter of the evening,” the release promises.

Marley has had more than 100 national television performances including most recently his feature on the CBS “Early Show” earlier this month. He has completed the nighttime network television circuit doing his stand- up and has been interviewed on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno, “ The Late Show” with David Letterman, “The Late Late Show,” Conan O’Brien’s show, “Chelsea Lately” with Chelsea Handler and many more. A Comedy Central veteran, he was first featured on “Premium Blend,” “The USO Tour” and his own half- hour special, “Comedy Central Presents Bob Marley.”

His first one hour cable comedy special, “Wicked,” is expected next year. In addition, he played the memorable and always goofy Detective Greenly in the cult favorite movies “Boondock Saints I & II.”

Marley is heading into his 20th year of standup and performs more than 250 shows a year across the country.
