Fire reported in Sanford

  SANFORD — A fire in Sanford was reported at 12:43 p.m. today. A dispatcher at Sanford Regional Communications Center confirmed that the fire is at 36 Sam Allen Road. She did not know the cause of the fire or whether anyone has been injured in it.

AG says Thomaston land deal void

In a letter dated Friday, Schneider writes that the sale of 5.2 acres in Thomaston to Warden Patricia Barnhart “is void” because it violates state law that prohibits state officials from having a financial interest in “any contracts made on behalf of the state.”

Downeaster, truck collide in ‘fireball’

A Downeaster train with 109 passengers aboard slammed into a trash-hauling tractor trailer at 11:05 a.m. today, killing at least one person.

The driver of the truck died in the collision, said Cliff Cole, a spokesman based in Amtrak’s New York office. Some of the train’s 109 passengers were injured, but it’s not clear how many or how seriously they were hurt, said Steve McCausland from the Maine Department of Public Safety.
