Master Gardener training
Applications are now available for the next master gardener volunteer training with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension in York County. Participants will receive more than 75 hours of horticultural training beginning Jan. 20.
The class will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays through June at the Anderson Learning Center in Springvale.
Some of the trainings include soils, botany, composting, herbs, seed starting, vegetables, berries, tree fruits, pruning, and pest management.
The deadline to apply is Jan. 4.

Winter reading program
The Springvale Library is beginning its annual winter reading program on Jan. 9.
Children ages 2 to 13-years-old are encouraged to register for this free program at the library. Children can participate whenever the library is open. Children with reading disabilities are encouraged to join. The program will run through Feb. 29.
The library is offering a variety of other reading programs too.
