Portland municipal crews took advantage of cold temperatures on Wednesday — the low was 7 degrees and the high was 26 — to prepare several of the city’s ponds for skating.

Ponds at Payson Park and on Ludlow Street, near Deering High School, should be resurfaced and open for skating by this morning, according to a news release from the city.

The pond at Riverside Golf Course, the city’s only lighted outdoor rink, is expected to be open to the public by the weekend.

The pond at Deering Oaks is already open.
