Portland Ovations brings a touring version of the musical “Mamma Mia!” to Merrill Auditorium at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday. This show features the music of the pop band ABBA. It’s a story of summer love that unfolds on a Greek island, featuring familiar songs such as “Dancing Queen,” “S.O.S.,” “Take a Chance on Me,” “The Winner Takes It All” and others.

After a brief break, the Portland Symphony Orchestra gets back to work Jan. 24 with guest conductor Christopher Warren Green and guest violinist Steven Moeckel. Don’t recognize Green’s name? He conducted for the wedding of Britain’s Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The program includes music by Sibelius and Dvorak. PSO music director Robert Moody describes this program as “rustic and romantic.”
