PHIPPSBURG

The Phippsburg Congregational Church recently presented the Bath Area Food Bank with a check for $2,543.22.

The donation includes funds collected during a Christmas Eve offering and half the proceeds from a Dec. 9, 2011, talent show.

Following a successful 2008 talent show and silent auction fundraiser that the church held to raise money for Heifer International to provide working farm animals to people and communities in need, the church once again invited musicians, storytellers and artists to participate in a combined talent show and silent auction that was held at the church on Dec. 9, according to a release.

Twenty performers participated in the talent show, and others contributed art and items for the silent auction. Attendees were encouraged to bring cans of soup for the food bank.

Proceeds from the event were split equally between the Bath Area Food Bank and the church, which also sponsors a community concert series.

The church designated its Christmas Eve offering to the food bank, where resources have been taxed by growing demand and a decrease in contributions.

Contributions to the Bath Area Food Bank can be mailed to P.O. Box 65, Bath, ME 04530. The food bank also welcomes donation of nonperishable food items such as cereal, juice, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, pasta, and canned foods, including meat, baked beans, soup, fruit and tuna.

Food donations can be dropped off at the food bank in the Bath United Church of Christ, 150 Congress Ave.
