WATERVILLE ( AP) — Maine’s acting director of the State Planning Office is out of a job after his arrest for drunken driving.

Richard Swanson Jr. says the action was swift. He told the Morning Sentinel that he resigned under pressure on Tuesday after being arrested the night before in Waterville.

Swanson said he was asked to resign by Gov. Paul Le- Page’s director of boards and commissions, Mike Hersey. Peter Rogers, LePage’s former communications director, will fill in as acting planning director.

Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey said Swanson’s blood alcohol content was over the limit of 0.08 percent for driving. He said Swanson was cooperative.

It is unclear where Swanson had been prior to his arrest, or where he was going in his 2008 Saab when police stopped him for driving erratically.
