Zoe Chace-Donahue of Merriconeag and Ian Moore of North Yarmouth Academy won individual titles Monday at Black Mountain in Rumford as the Class C skiing championships began with a 5-kilometer classical race.

Chace-Donahue completed the course in 16 minutes, 5.2 seconds to best a field of 63 by nearly a minute. Her sister, Emelie Chace-Donahue, was runner-up in 17:01.1. Merriconeag placed four skiers among the top 10 to take a commanding lead in the two-event Nordic competition.

Merriconeag leads Fort Kent 19-43, with Freeport at 49 and Orono (98) fourth of 13 teams.

North Yarmouth Academy placed five skiers among the top 10. Cam Regan (third), Jake Susla (sixth), Evan Kendall (eighth) and Robert Field (ninth) followed Moore’s winning time of 12:58.6.

Josh Espy of Waynflete was second at 13:30.3 among the field of 76. NYA leads the team competition 18-35 over Merriconeag, with Freeport (85) third, Telstar (99) fourth and Fort Kent (102) fifth.

YARMOUTH 4, GARDINER 2: Marshall Brunell, David Clemmer, Alex Watson and Eamon Costello scored for the Clippers (11-5-1) against Gardiner (6-11-1) at Yarmouth.

 

PORTLAND 6, NOBLE/WELLS 4: Chris Eye had two goals, and Zach Luce added a goal and two assists as the Bulldogs (2-15) defeated Noble/Wells (4-13) at Portland.

The Bulldogs got the first two goals in the first two periods, then the final two of the third. Ryan Jurgelevich scored the winner with 6:04 left.

 

FALMOUTH 5, GREELY 3: The Yachtsmen (14-4) scored three power-play goals to overcome Greely (11-5-2) at Falmouth.

The Rangers took a 2-0 lead in the first. Cameron Bell and Andre Clement had second-period goals for the Yachtsmen. Mitch Tapley and Jack Pike scored on power plays in the third for Falmouth.

 

THORNTON ACADEMY 7, SCARBOROUGH 2: Seven players scored for the Golden Trojans (15-1-1) against the Red Storm (12-3-2) at Saco.

Bryan Dallaire had a goal and two assists for Thornton Academy. Robbie Downing and C.J. Maksut each added a goal and an assist. Cam Loiselle scored twice for Scarborough.

 

MASSABESIC/OOB 4, MT. ARARAT/LISBON 3: A.J. Gass had a hat trick and Nick Vigue scored at 5:55 of overtime to lift Massabesic/Old Orchard Beach (6-11-1) over Mt. Ararat/Lisbon (5-11-1).
