Gifford’s launches Muddy Bean Boot for L.L.’s 100th

If you’re used to buying Gifford’s Maine Deer Tracks, now you can order some Muddy Bean Boots to go along with it.

To celebrate its 100th anniversary, L.L. Bean is partnering with Gifford’s Ice Cream to create the special-edition flavor. The ice cream, according to Gifford’s, is the company’s Old-Fashioned Vanilla criss-crossed with sweet caramel ripple and tossed with chocolate brownie bites.

A portion of the proceeds from Muddy Bean Boots will be donated to Healthy Hometowns, a non-profit program that promotes active, healthy lifestyles through outdoor recreation.

The new flavor will be for sale at Gifford’s five ice cream stands in Maine beginning Friday, and at 1,500 other locations in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

Gelato Fiasco celebrates new store with new flavor

The Gelato Fiasco will release a new limited-edition flavor Tuesday, the first day of spring, in honor of Portland and its new store in the Old Port.

Sweet Resurgam Gelato, named for Portland’s motto, will be a burnt sugar almond gelato with swirls of salted caramel and chocolate chips. Resurgam is Latin for “I will rise again,” a reference to the fires that have destroyed the city during its history. The gelato is made with Maine milk and locally-harvested sea salt.

There will only be 2,400 pints of the gelato made, and once they are sold, the flavor will be retired. One dollar from each pint sold will be donated to a national grassroots job-creation program created by the founder of Starbucks called Create Jobs for USA. The Gelato Fiasco received a low-interest loan from the program for its new store at 425 Fore St.

The gelato maker will host a free tasting of the flavor at Rosemont Market on Brighton Avenue from 2 to 5 p.m. March 24. Another tasting will be held at Whole Foods Market from noon to 3 p.m. March 31.
