BATH — Maine author Kieran Shields will read from his novel, “The Truth of All Things,” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Patten Free Library on Summer Street.
The program is free and open to the public; refreshments will be served. Bath Book Shop will handle sales at the event.
“The Truth of All Things,” Shields’ first novel, is a historical thriller set in Maine in the summer of 1892.
“When Portland detective Archie Lean is called to investigate a murder, he’s surprised to find the body laid out like a pentagram and pinned to the earth with a pitchfork,” a library release states. “He’s even more surprised to learn that this death by ‘sticking’ is a traditional method of killing a witch.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
