ORR’S ISLAND

The Orr’s and Bailey Islands Fire Department will host an open house from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at its main fire station on Route 24 on Orr’s Island.

“The open house will offer an opportunity for everyone to see how the department serves the community with fire and rescue services and helps preserve island tradition and heritage through its volunteer efforts and as stewards of treasured community property,” a release states.

Firefighters from the allvolunteer department will be on hand to speak with attendees and demonstrate new equipment, including the “Jaws of Life” rescue tool and thermal imaging cameras acquired through donations from community members and grants.

“We want to show everyone how we put their contributions to use with equipment and training to provide the community with the highest level of fire and rescue services,” Andy Paulhus, president of the OBIFD board of directors, said in the release.

The open house also will allow visitors to tour the adjacent Orr’s Island Schoolhouse.
