NAPLES – Police say a speeding vehicle crashed into a telephone pole in Naples early Saturday morning, send two men to the hospital.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, police attempted to stop for erratic driving a 2006 Dodge Magnum as it turned onto to Lake Shore Road from Roosevelt Trail. The driver, John T. Allen, 31, of Bridgton, first slowed, but then sped up to 80 mph, police said. Allen then lost control of his vehicle and hit a telephone pole.

Allen was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with non-life threatening injuries. The passenger, Jeremy McLeod, 31, of Harrison, was taken to Bridgton Memorial for a foot/ankle injury.
