The town of Freeport is one step away from naming a new town manager to take over for Dale Olmstead, who is retiring this fall after 30 years on the job.

In February 2011, Olmstead, 63, announced his intent to retire “sometime in 2012.”

On Tuesday, the town announced two finalists for the position: James G. Doar, current town manager of Bethel; and Peter E. Joseph Jr., the town manager of Lincoln, N.H.

After a round of interviews earlier this month, the Town Council pared its list of applicants to the two finalists.

The Town Council will interview Doar and Joseph separately on July 9, then hold a public meeting on July 12 for residents and representatives of each town department to meet with the candidates at the Freeport Community Center.

Joseph is scheduled to attend the July 12 meeting from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Doar is scheduled to attend from 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

The council will further discuss the candidates during a meeting on July 19. Residents with comments about either candidate are asked to email dgerrish@eatonpeabodyconsulting.com.
