A Standish home was destroyed by a fire early this morning.

Standish Fire Captain Abe Newton said the fire at a two-and-a-half story home and attached barn at 1215 Richville Road was reported at 2:43 a.m. The home was fully engulfed in flames when the Standish Fire and Emergency Medical Service arrived at the scene.

Firefighters, hampered by a lack of water and manpower, took about 90 minutes to get the blaze under control.

Help was provided by 11 surrounding towns and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The State fire Marshal’s office has been called to help determine the cause of the blaze.

Neither the homeowners nor any firefighters were hurt in the incident.
