Gray Ghost Fly Tyers / Jan. 8 in Yarmouth
The Gray Ghosts meet the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month through March, except holidays. The fly tying class is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and is sponsored by the Sebago chapter of Trout Unlimited. All welcome. No cost, although a $2 donation is welcome to help pay for material. Wildlife Films / Jan. 11 in Thomaston
The Georges River Land Trust and The Highlands Coffee House are offering a winter film series. Come to The Highlands Coffee House in Thomaston at 7 p.m. on the second Friday of each month to enjoy an outdoor film. The next film is “Hardwater.” Public welcome; admission is free. Biathlon Contest / Jan. 27 in Jefferson
Hidden Valley Nature Center is planning its second annual biathlon, a race combining skiing and shooting. The Olympic event is seeing a comeback in Maine, and HVNC is encouraging beginners and novice skiers to try it. Last year’s event drew 60 participants. Skis will be available for use. Early registration is encouraged. Registration before Jan. 20 is $10 for youth skiers and $15 for adults. Call 586-6752 or write to gary@hvnc.org.
