To the Editor:

I am at odds as to how anyone could support the National Rifle Association. They are a hateful organization.

They have given over $54 million to buy votes and support the sale of all guns. For the life of me, how can we as a so called great nation support such killings that go on everyday in our country?

True, people will always get guns illegally. That will never stop. But, in good faith, why can’t we ban all guns with clips, and more than six shots?

I strongly believe in our right to carry arms, but if a person cannot hit a target with six shots, they should not have a gun at all.

It takes lots of practice to be good. As a past federal officer, I know.

Folks, when our founding fathers put guns in the 2nd Amendment, those guns only had a single shot. Our fathers were not faced with mass killings; I bet they would not stand for what Republicans — and a few Democrats who are also on the NRA payroll — want to allow today.

So, my compromise is this: everything over six shots, out; anything with a clip, out. Let’s get back to target practice with wad cutters, get good at what we do, and I am sorry if the NRA will lose a lot of money. I do not feel bad for them. It is a killer organization as a whole.

There are some gun dealers who make an honest living, and people do need places to buy guns legally for whatever reason.

As an American, I would rather legislate that all assault guns with clips be in the hands of the police or military. At least my vote would have tried to protect little children and innocent mothers.
