BIDDEFORD – Freshman Kyle Morin made the most of a second chance at a point-blank shot, and it made all the difference Saturday in Lewiston’s 3-1 victory over Biddeford in a hard-hitting Class A boys’ hockey game at Biddeford Ice Arena.
“Morin’s goal was huge,” Lewiston Coach Jamie Bell-eau said. “It shows extreme poise by the kid and his line. We scored there because his line established a forecheck and got the puck in deep, and Morin was in the right place at the right time.”

Morin tipped a long shot down into the pads of Biddeford goalie Jon Fields (40 saves). The rebound came loose and Morin lifted the puck into the net.
“I was just battling in front of the net and a lucky bounce came right to my stick,” Morin said. “It was great because Biddeford’s a great team and you have to make the most of your chances against them.”
The play came nine seconds after Tyler Bellerose cut the Blue Devils’ lead to 2-1 when he slipped the puck past Lewiston goalie Evan Bourassa (20 saves) just 1:52 into the third period.
“That was huge, coming right after they scored that one goal that brought them right back into the game,” said Matt Poulin of Lewiston. “Responding is the biggest thing. We needed to get another one to regain momentum and to separate ourselves.”
Lewiston (5-2-1) opened a 2-0 lead on a pair of power-play goals over the first two periods. Kyle Lemelin opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the year at 13:22 of the first period. It was set up by Evan Gosselin and Patrick DeBlois.
The Tigers (3-3-1), who were 0 of 7 on the power play, missed a chance to capitalize on an advantage, skating five-on-three for 1:51 bridging the first and second periods.
“The first half of the game, our power play looked really good,” Biddeford Coach Rich Reissfelder said. “But on that five-on-three, the first 31 seconds we didn’t get a shot on net.”
Belleau was pleased with Lewiston’s penalty-killing units on that sequence.
“If we didn’t kill that, it changes the whole dynamic of the game,” he said.
But the Devils survived, and Poulin went on to score at 6:56 of the second for a 2-0 lead.
Just 1:51 into the third, Bellerose cut the lead to 2-1, knocking home the rebound of Devon Werthner’s shot. But Lewiston quickly regained its two-goal lead thanks to Morin.
“I just go out and give it everything,” Morin said. “If I score, great. If I don’t, I need to keep working and doing my job.”
