MACHIAS (AP) — A Machias restaurant famous around the nation for its blueberry pie and other desserts has suffered severe damage in an early morning fire.
Crews responded to Helen’s Restaurant at about 1:45 a.m. Friday.
There were no reports of injuries and according to the restaurant’s Facebook page no one was inside at the time.
According to broadcast reports, the roof had caved in.
Crews from several surrounding towns helped local firefighters.
The cause remains under investigation.
Helen’s was founded in 1950 and has been featured in National Geographic Traveler, Everyday with Rachael Ray, and Parade and Life magazines.
