American citizen a victim

TRENTON, N.J. – The only American identified so far as a victim of the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in Ukraine lived in New Jersey as a child and returned to the Netherlands when he was 5.

Quinn Lucas Schansman, 19, had dual Dutch-American citizenship.

His grandfather, Ronald Schansman told Philadelphia’s WCAU-TV his grandson was studying international business in Amsterdam and was flying to meet his father, stepmom, brother and sister for a family vacation to Bali.

Dutch leader presses Putin

THE HAGUE, Netherlands An angry Dutch prime minister says he has had an “extremely intense” telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin in which he urged him to “show the world he intends to help” in the investigation into the Ukraine air disaster.

Mark Rutte told reporters on Saturday that he told Putin he must use his influence over separatist rebels in Ukraine to ensure they do not hinder efforts to investigate the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17.

Gathering victims’ DNA

THE HAGUE, Netherlands – Forensic teams fanned out across the Netherlands on Saturday to collect material including DNA samples that will help positively identify the remains of victims killed in the downing of the Malaysia Airlines plane over Ukraine.

Police said in a tweet that 40 pairs of detectives from the National Forensic Investigations Team would be visiting victims’ relatives.
