YARMOUTH — Matt Rines and Curtis Anderson each scored a goal to lift the Richmond High School boys soccer team to a 2-1 win over North Yarmouth Academy on Monday.

The win, in first-year coach Peter Gardner’s first game, gives the Bobcats a 1-0 record. Richmond opens its home slate on Wednesday against Pine Tree Academy at 4 p.m.

Nathan Kendrick and Nathan Vintinner picked up one assist each.

Bobby Murray scored the lone goal for NYA (1-1).

The Panthers held a 13-11 shots advantage, with Richmond goaltender Zach Small turning aside 10 shots. NYA netminder Clayton Manchester had seven saves.

“They all played hard and strong,” said Gardner, who praised the defensive work of Cameron Emmons along with forward Anderson.

Libby Ouellette and Ryley Leech potted a goal apiece as the Eagles won their home opener in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference matchup in Topsham.

Lauren Williams and Kate Guerin combined in goal on the shutout.

Mt. Ararat, which visits rival Brunswick on Thursday at 3:30 p.m., outshot the Blue Devils (0-2) 18-5 and held a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.

Kelsey St. Cyr turned aside 12 shots in goal for Lewiston.

Arianna Kahler led a trio of players to record goals Monday as Lisbon hustled to a 3-0 win over Dirigo in Mountain Valley Conference field hockey action at Dixfield.

Courtney Lawrence and Chase Collier also tallied for the Greyhounds to complete the scoring. Vic Swan needed only three saves to preserve the shutout.

Morgan Morrow turned aside 15 shots between the posts for Dirigo (0-2-1).

Lisbon improved to 3-0 and visits Oak Hill on Friday.
