Get informed about health coverage offered through the Affordable Care Act on Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. with Robin Bibber and Celyn Reed, health care navigators from Nasson Health Care. They will help participants understand what the ACA is, how to compare health insurance plans, and how to enroll during Open Enrollment, which begins Nov. 15 and ends Feb. 15, 2015.

Thursday, Sept. 25

The final concert of the Picnic in the Park Summer Concert Series, held in Sanford’s Central Park, will be Sept. 26. Concerts are free to the public, and take place from noon to 1 p.m. People may bring chairs or blankets and food. If it’s raining, there will be no concert.

Saturday, Sept. 27

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy, along with its Appalachian Trail Community partners and 31 trail-maintaining clubs, invite families to take a hike on the A.T. during the fourth annual Family Hiking Day on Saturday, Sept. 27. Held trail-wide on National Public Lands Day, Family Hiking Day is a program developed by the ATC to introduce and welcome families to the A.T. and all of the benefits that come from spending time outdoors. Families are invited to enjoy the outdoors with volunteer-led hikes, or to plan an adventure on their own utilizing a list of family friendly hikes in their local area as well as trail-related games and activities. Guided hikes will be led by A.T. club volunteers, partners in A.T. Communities and health organizations like the YMCA near Asheville, North Carolina. RSVPs are required for guided hikes and carpooling is encouraged. A bean supper will be held at North Saco Congregational Church, corner of Flag Pond, Heath and Rocky Hill roads, on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The menu includes two kinds of beans, hot dogs, potato salad, coleslaw, homemade brown bread, pie, coffee and lemonade. The cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children.

A chicken barbecue fundraiser is set for noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at New Covenant Church, 285 Maple St. in North Berwick. The menu includes grilled chicken, potato, pasta and garden salads, vegetables, desserts, coffee and beverages. A suggested $5 donation goes directly to the New Covenant Church Food Pantry. Sunday, Sept. 28

Local biologist and outdoor enthusiast Joe Yuhas will lead a guided walk at the Sylan Trail on Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. Meet at the trail parking lot, located on the right side of Flag Pond Road, just before the turnpike bridge. The trail is about two miles long, and the walk, which is at a relaxed pace, should take 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
