SOUTH BERWICK — Thornton Academy got goals from four different players as the visiting Trojans beat Marshwood 4-2 in an SMAA boys soccer game on Thursday.

Alex Arnold, Liam Eisenhaur, Simon Trcka and Tyler Lebel all found the back of the net for Thornton (5-1-2). Ben Steva pitched in with two assists, while Trcka and Jake Hale both had one.

Andrew Coleman stopped six Marshwood (3-4-1) shots in net for the Trojans.

WESTBROOK 1, SANFORD 0

SANFORD — Varney Kai scored on a 30-yard blast that deflected off the crossbar and in for the only goal as Westbrook beat host Sanford 1-0 in an SMAA boys soccer game at Cobb Stadium on Thursday.

D.J. Henrikson made eight saves in goal for the Blue Blazes (4-2-2) in shutting out the Spartans (2-5).

Volleyball

GREELY 3, THORNTON 0

SACO — Undefeated Greely wore out host Thornton Academy in a Class A volleyball match on Thursday, sweeping the Trojans 25-23, 25-19, 25-11 at Linnell Gymnasium.

Thornton (4-3) jumped out to a 23-19 lead in the opening set on the back of Ally Cannon’s serving and strong net play, but the Rangers (7-0) won the final six points to take the set.

Greely won the final six points of the second set as well, breaking a 19-19 stalemate to take a two-set lead.

Cannon finished with a team-high seven aces, while Ashley Howe, Kaylee Burns and Kylee Austin combined for eight kills.

Greely sophomore Ashley Cimino led the Rangers with five aces and eight kills.

Golf

THORNTON 9, GREELY 4

SACO — Thornton Academy got revenge for its only loss of the season, as the Trojans beat previously undefeated Greely 9-4 in a Class A golf match at Biddeford-Saco Country Club on Thursday.

All six Thornton players shot sub-42 scores, with the Hashilla Rivai (35) narrowly beating out teammate Greg Kalagias (36) for the individual medal.

Noah Jacques (38) and Jordan Laplume (39) also shot below 40 in earning two points for the Trojans (8-1).

Jacob Storey (39) and Nathan Gervais (40) both earned two points for the Rangers (7-1).

Thornton won the team medal, 189-206.

BIDDEFORD 11.5, SANFORD 1.5

ARUNDEL — Host Biddeford earned points in every individual match as the Tigers beat Sanford 11.5-1.5 in an SMAA golf match at Dutch Elm Golf Course on Thursday.

Kerry Crepeau, Mike Reissfelder and Logan Magnant all earned two points for the Tigers (5-3) by winning in both stroke and match play. Jason Vadnais, Nick Conley and Andrew Hose all won in stroke play as well, but were all square in match play.

The Spartans (4-4) got points from Luke Lapierre, Jordan D’Alessandro and Dean Johnson.

The Tigers won the team medal, 243-272.

YORK 6, WELLS 1

YORK — Colby Todd shot a 42 to lead five individual match winners for York as the Wildcats beat Wells 6-1 in a Class B golf match at York Golf and Tennis on Thursday.

Shawn Ramsey earned the lone point for the Warriors after shooting a 43. Seamus McDonough (46) also shot a sub-50 round, but was outdone by Todd in the No. 1 match.

York narrowly won the team medal, 194-196.
