WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) — A Superior Court judge has continued a restraining order preventing a Westerly High School student from having any contact with a teacher.
Associate Justice Kristen Rodgers granted an injunction and continuation of the restraining order on Monday sought by Maryjane Utley, head of the school’s science department.
The student allegedly threatened to snap the teacher’s neck.
Rodgers said at a hearing that the restraining order gives Utley some peace of mind.
A temporary restraining order had been issued by Rodgers on Nov. 7.
According to documents filed by Michael Lynch, Utley’s lawyer, the student was heard by other students in Utley’s class to threaten to “shoot up the school” Oct. 6. He was suspended for five days and then allegedly threatened Utley while speaking to other students.
