The Portland International Jetport, whose main runway is located in South Portland, was recently honored with two industry recognitions for its top-notch service and commitment to sustainability.
First, the jetport was one of seven airports worldwide to receive an Airports Going Green award from the Chicago Department of Aviation. The Airports Going Green Conference is the airline industry’s leading sustainability forum and its prestigious awards recognize leadership in pursuit of sustainability.
In 2012, the Jetport completed a 137,000-square-foot addition with a new ticketing hall, security checkpoint, concessions, four new gates, airline ticketing offices, baggage pick-up, and a new in-line baggage handling system. The terminal received LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
“Our new terminal is a gateway to the state of Maine, a place known for environmental stewardship and the beauty of its coastal and woodland natural environments,” said Paul Bradbury, director at the jetport. “Sustainability continues to be on the minds of consumers, and we’re honored to be recognized by such an important organization for our new look and functionality.”
In addition, the jetport has learned that it’s ranked high among North American airports of its size for overall operation and customer satisfaction, according to recent survey by the world’s leading airport customer satisfaction benchmark program.
During its busiest quarter, July-September, the jetport took top honors in 17 of 34 applicable categories, including overall satisfaction among all passengers and among business and leisure travelers specifically, once again besting Boston’s Logan Airport. The jetport also scored high marks for parking facilities, waiting times and the efficiency and helpfulness of staff.
“This survey helps us measure our work against our peers and identify areas that need attention,” Bradbury said. “It’s gratifying to know that our constant focus on customer experience is paying off.”
