Two men have been charged with breaking into a vacant school in Bath and causing more than $20,000 in damage.
Police charged Daniyil Klimov, 21, and Zachary Lambert, 22, with burglary and criminal mischief, both felonies, in connection with a break-in at Huse School on Andrews Road.
If convicted, the men face up to five years in prison. They also could be ordered to pay for the damage, said Police Chief Michael Field.
The break-in occurred the night of Oct. 30. Police were called the following day and found a “path of destruction” throughout the building, including smashed windows and doors, Field said in a news release.
At the time, police recovered a Guy Fawkes mask believed to have been used by the burglars, and authorities are analyzing it for evidence such as fingerprints or DNA, police said.
Investigators followed up on tips from the public and identified Klimov and Lambert as suspects, police said.
The two were released on $22,000 bail each and have a court date set for Feb. 10 in Sagadahoc County Superior Court.
