BIDDEFORD — Arthur J. “Archie” Palmitessa, 87, of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at Briarleaf Nursing Home in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

He was the husband of the late Estelle Helene (Perreault) Palmitessa, who died Aug. 22, 2007.

Born on Junwe 17, 1927 in Biddeford, he was the son of the late Giacomo “Jack” and Clementine (Petit) Palmitessa. He attended local schools, St. Mary’s and Biddeford High School, where he was a stand-out in football.

After having served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict, he graduated from the University of Rhode Island, after which he served an an officer in the Army.

Arthur then worked for J.C. Penney and was a manager for 40 years, until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of Kiwanis.

He was preceded in death by: a son, Brian Palmitessa.

He is survived by: a son, Glenn Palmitessa and his wife Janine of Doylestown; six grandchildren, Daniel, Elan, Shelby, Aisha, Jaxson and Jayden; a daughter-in-law, Holly Palmitessa of Atlanta, Georgia; a sister, Arlene Larochelle of Old Orchard Beach; two brothers, Ovide of East Waterboro and John Palmitessa of Jacksonville, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 30 at St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church, East Stroudsburg, with burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford at a later date.
