WELLS — Superintendent Ellen H. Schneider of the Wells-Ogunquit Consolidated School District will be stepping down to take a position in northern Maine in May.
In a statement on Thursday, the School Committee said that Schneider wanted to live closer to her father, who is sick.
“Ellen Schneider is resigning as of May 6th to take a position in Northern Maine so that she can be closer to home,” the School Committee said in its statement submitted by School Committee Chair Helena Ackerson. “Ellen has graciously offered to remain available to assist in the transition. The Board thanks her for her service and wishes her well.”
During Schneider’s tenure at Wells-Ogunquit CSD, she has overseen a $27 million renovation of Wells High School, taking over from her predecessor Elaine Tomaszewski. Prior to coming to Wells, Schneider served for 14 years in MSAD #1 in Presque Isle, 10 of which were as assistant superintendent. In the fall of last year, Schneider was appointed to the Board of Directors for the New England School Development Council.
