OLD ORCHARD BEACH — For the second game in a row the Old Orchard Beach Surge looked to rally back late, and for the second time the Surge fell short, as the Watertown Bucks held on for a 4-2 victory at The Ballpark.

The game remained scoreless until the third inning, with Bucks designated hitter Lyndon Estill hitting a sacrifice fly to left, giving them a 1-0 lead. The Bucks then added three more runs in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.

OOB starting pitcher Jordie Scheiner went 5 1/3 innings. The knuckleballer, making his first start for the Surge, gave up five hits and struck out four.

Surge relief pitchers Brian Chandler, Zachary Leitten and Forrest Moore teamed up to keep Watertown hitless the rest of the way, while giving up three walks and striking out five batters to keep the Surge in the game.

The Surge looked to rally back in the fifth, but were unable to capitalize on a bases-loaded situation.

The Surge gave it one last try in the ninth, with Marshall Betts leading off with a standup double, then moving to third on a sacrifice. Sam DiMatteo walked, putting runners at the corners with two outs for catcher Tyler Krobetzky. He found the gap between short and second for a two-run single. But a strikeout ended the rally and the game.

The game was Skip Flanagan’s first with the Surge. The former Raging Tide player signed Tuesday, and he had his first professional hit in the sixth with a single to center field.

The Surge returns to action tonight, as it hosts Watertown in the series finale at 7 p.m. This will be the last home game for the Surge until June 22, as the team is hitting the road for New York.
