Kids’ kayak fishing, 8 a.m. in Phippsburg

Seaspray Kayaking, the Phippsburg Sportsmen’s Association, Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the Phippsburg Land Trust are sponsoring a kids’ kayak fishing derby. The fifth annual event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at Phippsburg’s Center Pond at Hatch Point. All equipment will be provided. Hatch Point is between Bisson’s Center Store and the town hall on Route 209. The event is for ages 15 and under.

Thoreau-Wabanaki Trail Festival, through Saturday in Greenville

The Natural Resource Education Center at Moosehead is sponsoring its ninth annual Thoreau-Wabanaki Trail Festival. The festival is organized with help from the Moosehead Historical Society and Maine Woods Forever. Events about Native American history include a basket-making class, a tour of Mt. Kineo, a class on wildflowers and an archeology seminar. All events are located at the Moosehead Lake Center for History in downtown Greenville or under the big tent just across the street and are free for NREC members. Coastal Bike ride, 8:45 a.m. July 25 in Richmond

Meander through the towns and scenery of the magnificent Merrymeeting Bay region during the third annual Capital to Coast Bike Ride, a ride hosted by the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust. The ride starts in Bath at Waterfront Park. Riders will travel north along roads near the route of the proposed off-road Capital to Coast Trail through the towns of West Bath, Brunswick, Topsham, Bowdoinham, Richmond, and Gardiner. All experience levels are welcome. There are two distance options – 26 and 37 miles. The rides will include frequent stops to rest and regroup, and the expected pace is 10 to 12 mph. Bus transportation from Gardiner and Richmond to the start of the ride will be available. The event is free if participants arrange their own transportation; the bus fee is $10. Bus pick-up times are 7:30 a.m. at Gardiner’s Waterfront Park and 8 a.m. at the Richmond Town Office. For more information, call 442-8400.

Saunders Preserve nature hike, 10-11 a.m. July 21 in Boothbay

A nature hike at Saunders Preserve will be guided by the Boothbay Region Land Trust. The hike is free and open to the public. Meet at the trailhead parking lot at the junction of Back Narrows Road and Pleasant Cove Road. To learn more, call 633-4818.
