I watched the Blue Angels practice from St. John’s Cemetery on the Friday afternoon before the Brunswick Air Show.
While I stood there waving excitedly. I was overwhelmed with gratitude for our armed forces. I thought of all the brave men and women who have fought and today are still fighting on land, sea and air under the flag of and for our republic — “one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
As I was leaving, one of the Blue Angels flew by and tipped his wings. I was elated. But then I looked around me and remembered seeing the little flags on many graves on Memorial Day and said out lout, “That salute was for you, veterans.”
May God bless our troops and our country forever.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
