BIDDEFORD — For the first time in the history of the program, the University of New England women’s ice hockey team will have a home postseason game when the New England Hockey Conference tournament kicks off on Saturday. The fourth-seeded Nor’easters will welcome fifth-seeded Salve Regina University to the Harold Alfond Forum for a 4 p.m. game.
Other quarterfinal-round games feature No. 1 Norwich University hosting No. 8 New England College, No. 2 Castleton University taking on No. 7 Plymouth State University, and No. 3 UMass Boston playing host to No. 6 Manhattanville College.
UNE (14-8-2, 9-7-1 NEHC) claimed the fourth spot and home playoff game with a clutch 4-3 win over UMass Boston on the final day of the regular season. The Nor’easters’ win total of 14 established a school single-season record.
Salve Regina will take a 10-12-3 mark (8-7-2 NEHC) into Saturday’s contest. UNE won the only meeting of the regular season between the two teams – a 2-0 road shutout on Jan. 15.
Ticket prices for Saturday’s quarterfinal at the Harold Alfond Forum will be $5 for adults and $3 for students. Tickets will go on-sale at 3:00 p.m. the day of the game. No advance ticket sales will be available.
The semifinals and finals will be played March 5-6 at the site of the highest remaining seed.
