I have been following your four-part series, “Living With Disabilities,” highlighting various individuals and how they are progressing with help from the current Supports Intensity Scale that is now in place.
These individuals are doing well in spite of the many obstacles they face because of the current rating system that the state would like to change in order to provide less assistance to these people for the sole purpose of saving money.
This is definitely not the place to cut funds.
As it is set up now, the SIS fosters a good quality of life, independence and a chance for these individuals to make valuable contributions to their communities.
Most importantly it gives them purpose.
I would hope that legislators will really look at this and realize not to change a system in place and works well. I’m sure that there are other areas where budgetary cuts would make more sense and that no cuts will be made to a system that is working well and doing a significant job at making people’s lives so much better.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
